Alan Graham Posted 5 January , 2012 Posted 5 January , 2012 What an impressive place... The rain held off but the clouds added to the drama of the place.
KIRKY Posted 5 January , 2012 Posted 5 January , 2012 Always find it a very emotive place. Great for moody pics. Tony
Peter and Ellen Posted 5 January , 2012 Posted 5 January , 2012 As well as being the Canadian Memorial for the Missing in France, it is also a work of art. One pylon is for Canada and the other for France, a magnificent gesture. Plus the view out onto the Douai Plain and the old coal mining spoil heaps..outstanding. When up close, you have to wear sunglasses on sunny days to look at it. The Canadians have every reason to be very proud, not only the magnificent capture of the ridge but also an outstanding Memorial. Peter
spconnolly007 Posted 6 January , 2012 Posted 6 January , 2012 My wife and I visited there for the first time late last year and were very impressed, did not know the reason behind the 2 towers so thanks for that Peter, and certainly a great gesture. The kind of place you cant stop taking photos of if you walk around the grounds, as you think it looks better from whatever angle you stop to view it from! Very nice black and white images Alan, Regards Sean
Fedelmar Posted 6 January , 2012 Posted 6 January , 2012 There are some youtube video's about the Canadian's at Vimy ... if you go to my website and select the VIDEO page you should be able to watch them via the links. Bright Blessings Sandra
hwstorey Posted 28 March , 2012 Posted 28 March , 2012 This is a picture from Vimy in 2010. I took a group of students on a Canadian Battlefields tour that year. Two of my students created this beautiful picture. I am taking another group in a couple days for the 95th Anniversary.
JesseM88 Posted 29 March , 2012 Posted 29 March , 2012 That's a really touching photo, hwstorey. I'll be there in September for the first time. I can't wait!

Thank you, it's one of my favourite pictures from the trip. Vimy is amazing to behold. It's one thing to walk up to it, but it's Mourning Canada that will bring a tear to almost anyone's eye.
margaretdufay Posted 29 March , 2012 Posted 29 March , 2012 have you visited the underground part of vimy, very often in the summer, there are young canadian students who act as guides for these visits and they are very interesting mags

The Canadian students are at all of the Canadian memorial sites. There was an amazing young lady at Beaumont Hammel the last time I went. She had a personal connection to the site and was able to explain things so well. It's an amazing opportunity for any student with an interest in Canadian history.
