Rory Stephens Posted 5 January , 2012 Posted 5 January , 2012 Dear Members If there is anyone out there who could help me with any details about this unit I would be most grateful. I am researching a fallen soldier who served with this Battery, and died of wounds in April 1918. I confess I know precious little about them, except that I think they were formed in East Ham in 1915 and didnt proceed overseas until November 1915, where they were attached to the 36th Ulster Division. Is there a Brigade or unit diary for the 173rd RFA,? I have the 36th Div History, but this is not nearly specific enough. Any info on this Brigade of the RFA and indeed D Battery in particular would be of great assistance. Many thanks and Happy New Year to all! Rory
sotonmate Posted 5 January , 2012 Posted 5 January , 2012 Rory D Battery's business will be within the main 173 Bde RFA Diary, maybe as a seperate account if they were deployed seperately. WO95/2496 runs from Nov 1915 to Feb 1919. It is not digital as yet. Sotonmate

rob elliott Posted 16 January , 2012 Posted 16 January , 2012 Rory, Have a look at the 'Kaisers Battle' by Martin Middlebrooke. He mentions the 173rd a couple of times. An officer named F.N.Broome was interviewed for it. I knew of an Ulster Division RE signaller, Bob Grange, who served with them. Won the MM. In fact he was given the MM twice. Once by the Engineers and once by the RA for the same action. Had to forfeit the one [think it was RE's]. Any probs finding book, PM me. Rob
