Guest lloydie801 Posted 4 January , 2012 Posted 4 January , 2012 I'm researching a cousin who served in Field Butcheries in France and Egypt. His records show that he was admitted to Hospital for "VDSC Mild". Clearly I'm expecting the worst but any guidance would be very welcome. Many Thanks Ian
Bardess Posted 4 January , 2012 Posted 4 January , 2012 Hi Ian and welcome I've not seen VDSC before but, usually, VDS is Venereal Disease - Syphilis. [VDG being Gonorrhoea]
Doc2 Posted 4 January , 2012 Posted 4 January , 2012 Could it perhaps be "VDSG"? VD-- Syphilis and Gonorrhea? Doc
Admin Michelle Young Posted 4 January , 2012 Admin Posted 4 January , 2012 Venereal disease syphillitic chancre? Michelle
Guest colliro Posted 11 September , 2014 Posted 11 September , 2014 Maybe the 3rd letter stands for 'soft' rather than 'syphylitic'? Either is possible, but I've seen a WW1 service record that has 'VDSC' in one entry and 'soft chancre' in the next, and it looks as if both refer to the same condition. Seems to have been a widespread problem among the troops in Egypt/Palestine in 1917/1918. Robert
MaureenE Posted 11 September , 2014 Posted 11 September , 2014 For more about the troops in Egypt and venereal disease, see my post "RAMC-Egypt: online books" http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=217439 Cheers Maureen
