Hi Chaps,

Has anyone got any info on the above, As I think that he's one of my GWR Chaps.

I have the CWGC listing for him

Many thanks

According to the Royal Navy Officers Medal Roll, he was discharged dead as a 2nd Lt in the RAF on 16 April 1918 when his DH4 (B9485), nosedived after take-off,crashed and burnt out. A Lt. C.C. Betts was also killed. Conrad Coryton Betts is listes as an Observer Sub Lt so Taylor must have been the pilot although i haven't found a Royal Aero Club certificate for him.

Grant,

The October 1917 Navy List has him as a [tempy] Probationary Flight Officer RNAS [seniority 10th June 1917], under instruction at Cranwell Central Depot & Training Establishment.

Nigel and David,

Thanks for the information.

Now Im a bit confused, why was he in the RNAS, yet listed as RAF ?

Nigel, Does it mention where abouts he crashed ?

David, Does "Seniority" mean when he joined the RNAS ?

Many thanks

Grant,

Up until the 1st April 1918 there was no RAF, on this date the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service were merged to form the RAF. So he started off with the RNAS but became a member of the RAF on 1/4/18.

Seniority refers to the date when he was appointed to that rank.

Sorry, no it doesn't have a location specified but says he was at Mudros so if it was a take off crash then I suppose there is the most likely place.
