wwrsimon Posted 1 January , 2012 Posted 1 January , 2012 Hello everyone Firstly, let me wish you all a very happy new year, and hope your hangovers soon abate! Secondly, whilst continuing my research into war memorials in NE England, I came across a mystery memorial at Keepershield, Northumberland, on the B6320 about 1.5 miles NW of Humshaugh. The NEWMP website: http://www.newmp.org.uk/detail.php?contentId=7823 doesn't say much about it. So, a bit of a long shot, but can anyone shed any light on this memorial? is it memorial to a local crash, or a local man who died on active service? Regards Simon

Regards Simon Hi Simon, Where does the info come from on the NEWM site relating to an Airman killed 1914-18? The actual 'Memorial' looks pretty much like a rather elaborate surround for a drinking trough rather than a memorial? If it were a memorial it would surely have some sort of inscription, it also looks to be more of the Victorian era than WW1? Robert
wwrsimon Posted 1 January , 2012 Author Posted 1 January , 2012 Hello Robert I'm afraid I can't add any more than what's on the NEWMP website. I'm guessing it may be local folklore, but they must have some reason for the association with an airman...? You are right though, it does look like a Victorian fountain, and it's odd there's no inscription. regards Simon
