Remembered Today:

AVL Absent Voters List

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just wanted to make people aware of the AVL. I did not know such existed but as a result of some kind chap notifying me of them I have now found my great grandfather even though the MOD could not find his army records.

Therefore if you do not know anything about your soldier try your local library or archive centre to see if they have the Absent Voters List for 1918-19 which details all soldiers age 21 and above who were not at home to vote, in most cases it gives the army number and regiment. It assists if you know the address where they lived as they are done by address but if all else fails and you only know the town the search will be worth it if you find the info.

Regards
