Remembered Today:

Pocket Torch

Hello there,

I was wondering if someone could help me with the type of 'pocket torch' that would have been used circa WW1.

I am reading an account of an escaped prisoner using a 'pocket torch' to read his map in the dark. Any idea whether this would have been a 'squeeze the handle type' or a 'shake type?'

Any idea of how long the torch would stay lit?

Thank you very much in advance,

Mike

The 'Orilux' was in common use, a search should produce results.

Thank you, Radlad for your response.

When I did a web search for 'pocket torch' it came up with a mechanical device.

The Orilux link did produce informative results.

Thank you again,

Mike
