Remembered Today:

13499 Deck Hand Robert Walls

Robert Walls is believed to have served alongside his son William Munro Walls in the RN as I have mentioned in a thread on William. On the same R.N.R. Medal Roll as William (who has been positively identified) page there is a 13499/DA Deck Hand Robert F Walls entitled to the BWM and VM. I believe this is the right man.

I note there is also a 13499 Deck Hand Robert Walls on M.M.R Medal Roll entitled to the 1914/15 Star, BWM and VM.

I assume this is the same man and that he first served in the Mercantile Marine Reserve before transferring to the Royal Naval Reserve? Could anyone elighten me as to whether they are one in the same?

I have e-mailed the Fleet Air Arm Musuem, but no reply yet on the R.N.R. Service Records. Where would I find Mercantile Marine Service Records?

Thanks Colin,

There are 3 x entries. As I have stated above 13499/DA is believed to be my man. The officer is not. I am seeking information on numbering and whether the RNR and MMR men are one in the same, and if so how he came to serve with both organisations.
