lionboxer Posted 29 December , 2011 Posted 29 December , 2011 Is there a rough rule of thumb for the length of time for a medical discharge to come through? I have a man who was known to have been in Palestine in April 1918 (or at least his transfer to another unit was then) and discharged KR 392 XVI 18th Dec 1918. Lionboxer
Ron Clifton Posted 29 December , 2011 Posted 29 December , 2011 Hello Lionboxer I believe that it was usual, in cases other than those where the nature of the would was so severe as to require immediate discharge, for a man's case to be reviewed by a medical board after three months. Thereafter there might be further reviews, or a decision might be made after the first board. There was of course pressure to retain men in the Army as long as there was a reasonable chance of them becoming fit for duty after recovery, even in a lower medical category. For men returning to the UK from the further-flung theatres, the time taken to get back to Britain might lengthen the overall process somewhat. Ron
lionboxer Posted 29 December , 2011 Author Posted 29 December , 2011 Thanks Ron. He died Jan 1921 of TB and I'm trying to see if this was attributable to his service. Lionboxer
