n252901 Posted 29 December , 2011 Posted 29 December , 2011 Hi All, After spending last years efforts successfully trying to get my Great Grandfather Lawrence Allen 1036 (1st/4th Bn Coldstream Guards)onto the Debt of Honour and a CWGC headstone, with the help of many contributors from this forum, and some relatives. I have some great newspaper reports and photos of his funeral, his service records, his death cert. BUT..... I still had no luck identifying the existence of any photos of him. From my other threads, some of you may know that I tried the regimental HQ, but they have unfortunately lost his medals and records, my Grandmother sent in for safekeeping, I have also tried the local association, and had no word from them. Were there group photos of the soliders taken following training, before deployment etc, or is it not worth my time trying to find one, as it's highly unlikely that one was taken? I don't expect you guys to do all the running around for me just any pointers to possible sources, would be appreciated, it took me nearly 18 months to get Lawrence recognised, so I am not afraid of hard work, perseverance and patience! Whilst doing some research unrelated to Lawrence I happened on an Illustration of The Battle Diamond Hill (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/98/Coldstreams_Guards_at_Diamond_Hill.jpg) which Lawrence was at, so that spurred me on to tried to make 2012 the year of the photo. Any helpful tips would really be useful. Many thanks as always Jack
Coldstreamer Posted 4 January , 2012 Posted 4 January , 2012 I believe that all new ww1 squads had a pic but pre 1914 are much more scarce - local papers is best buy you've done that
