museumtom Posted 24 December , 2011 Posted 24 December , 2011 Hi all and Merry Christmas!! Opening an old drawer I found a spoon I picked up at a car boot years ago. Its says MF 5927, and I can get and idea from the index to the MICs that it belonged to this lad who later changed regiments and wondered if his records survived? I dont have access to ancesrty, could some pal please take a peek for me? One more question please, if I may, I remember on some posting in the past that it was not uncommon for soldiers to carry their spoon in their puttees? any further info on this please? Medal card of Stevens, Martin Corps Regiment No Rank Royal Munster Fusiliers 5927 Private Highland Light Infantry 64281 Private Royal Engineers 608154 Private Thanking ye all most graciously in advance. I hope you all have a Peaceful and happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year and that next year will be better than this past one. Kind regards. Tom.
archangel9 Posted 25 December , 2011 Posted 25 December , 2011 Tom, From his MIC - Entitled to 1914 Star, BW & V Medals having entered theatre of war on 9/10/1914. The Star is on the Munsters roll whereas the BW & V Medals are on the RE roll. He was "Trans. 14.5.18" but its not clear which transfer this refers to. His medals were forfeit at some stage and later reinstated - "Medals forfeited disc. from Defence Force (No. 4B/120 The Buffs) under para 392(x) KR 2.6.21.". Subsequently he applied for his medals in September 1933 "C/O Mr Batt Murphy, Brosna, Co. Kerry, Ireland". The BW & V Medals were issued 4/10/1933. No date for the issue of the Star but Clasp & Roses were issued on 17/7/1938. There was a "records trace 21/3/45". He was also issued a SWB on list RE/4362 - 608154. Pioneer. Stevens, Martin. 8th Prov Coy. Badge Number B320819. Enlisted 27/5/19 (possibly a misprint?). Discharged 30/7/1919. Cause of Discharge Army Order 29 of January 1919 para 392 (xvi). Sickness. There is also a note - "Transferred to Class 'Z' on 27/3/19 from Highland L.I." No sign of any records but then they might still be with the MoD. John
