German Medal Book

I wasn't sure where to list this so here goes. There is an abundance of German medal books for the ww2 era and they are well photographed & detailed. I wish there was something similar for WW1, my ideal book would have, reverse and obverse photographs for each example,

chapters for each state,

details of precedence

production figures

explanation for award, service, bravery etc in english,

colour chart for ribbons,

and just to finish it off nicely all the above in a chapter devoted to Weimar veterans medals etc.

Is this asking too much, does it already exist (if it does I can't' find it)??

any advice or inclusions in the above structure?

Khaki,

probably expecting all that in English may be a bit too much. However a suggestion for a relatively cheap option showing most of the stuff from the various contingents would be the Waldorf-Astoria collection of "cigarette" cards published in the 1930s and titled "Orden". Check out German ebay, they come along quite frequently. If you feel up to the challenge in German, then you could try the multi-volume series by Jörg Nimmergut - Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen bis 1945. They cover just about everything in your wish list albeit auf Deutsch!

Khaki,

There was a post came up not too long ago, I can't find it but I think it may have been one of Chris Baker's if not he is a man to ask. Basically with the centenary of the start of the war approaching, they will be a fresh wave of interest and demand for something new, and I think you have found a gap. I think the best thing you can do is write it yourself. They are several members who are published that will point you in the right direction.

If you decide to do it keep us all posted I wouldn't mind a copy

The AVIATION AWARDS OF IMPERIAL GERMANY IN WORLD WAR I and the men who earned them series of volumes by Neal W O'Connor could give you some of what you are after - as well as biographical information there are details of the various orders and medals and the books are well illustrated.
