What is known about the Great war service of HMS FLYING FOX. She was a drill ship for the RNVR in Bristol for many years.

She was a 24 class fleet sweeping sloop and was built by Swan Hunter. If she was ccompleted by the Armistice it is likely that she would have been based at Granton or Gibraltar. She became an RNVR drill ship in March 1920.

Thankyou for that. She lasted until the 1970s, what a pity she was not preserved.

What about HMS locust. She was about the same vintage and moored next to HMS Flying Fox. She was used as the headquarters ship I believe. Any iformation on her.

HMS Locust was a second world war vintage gunboat, launched in 1939.

Thankyou. I had thought she was older than that.

The Bristol division of the RNR is still known as HMS FLYING FOX though she does not float.

What is known as a stone frigate, I believe. Situated in Winterstoke Road.
