Hello, can anybody help me in finding the location of the 1st Bat Sherwood Foresters on the 25th of September 1916? I have the battalions war diary but cannot find the map that corrosponds with the coordinates. They are H.QRS. 10.D.4.5.-H.QRS.G.17.B.7.9. This is where 70774 Pte W.S. Bradshaw was wounded.I have tried the National Archives but keep getting the wrong scale maps. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

I have looked at the War Diary, this is probably not what you require but at the date you mention above the 1st Battalion were in the Fouquieres, Gosnay, Verquin area. This map is taken from the 1st Battalion history published by Gale and Polden.

William Saville Bradshaw enlisted into the Sherwood Foresters on the 10th December 1915.

He was aged 25 years 8 months, his trade was a turret lathe operator.

He was mobilized on the 2nd March 1916 being posted into the 8th Battalion on the 16th July 1916,

He transferred to the 1st Battalion (C Coy) on the 21st September 1916.

Went to the Depot on the 2nd November 1916 and transferred to the reserve Class 'A' on the 5th April 1917.

He was to be discharged on the 13th September 1917 due to some kind of heart condition.

SWB ( 249732).

Thank you very much Bronno for your reply. I already have the above info about W S Bradshaw from his attestation form at the National Archives and I photocopied the map at Nottingham Library. So the search goes on! I am researching other Sherwood Foresters so further help would be much appreciated. But thank you again.
