Liam Posted 15 December , 2011 Share Posted 15 December , 2011 I've just come across this on the BBC Merseyside website The thief got just 9 weeks so will probably be out in 4 and a half http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-16199742 If the link doesn't work just cut and paste into the address bar Liam
Martin Bennitt Posted 15 December , 2011 Share Posted 15 December , 2011 he may have ben the thief but the prosecution obviously couldn't prove it. He was only done for handling stolen goods, which is a lesser offence. Probably some plea-bargaining here. All credit to the scrapman, though cheers Martin B

Three weeks doesn't seem right to me.
Magnumbellum Posted 16 December , 2011 Share Posted 16 December , 2011 Any discount for a guilty plea is allowed before giving the sentence, so remission of 50 % would leave four and a half weeks, not three.

Nigel If they could prove that he was the one that took it off the wall they might have been able to do him for criminal damage while they were at it. From the report it looks as if he managed to sell it to somebody.

River97 Posted 18 December , 2011 Share Posted 18 December , 2011 Daniel, There are some choice comments at the bottom of that article. What makes it worse is that the plaque has not been recovered. He must know where it is. Nine weeks jail, how about nine weeks community service in Afghanistan? Cheers Andy.
MBrockway Posted 9 April , 2014 Share Posted 9 April , 2014 Some good news for Willaston Village ... http://www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/news/local-news/willaston-village-festival-society-given-6875863 And here's the Carl's Cam page for the memorial which transcribes the names, but without the regiments unfortunately ...http://www.carlscam.com/warmem/willaston.htm Cheers, Mark
MBrockway Posted 9 April , 2014 Share Posted 9 April , 2014 First pass cross-reference against SDGW using Residence = Willaston and the name transcriptions from Carl's Cam, some of which are definitely typos. Much more work to be done, but it'll give you all something to get your teeth into ;-)
MBrockway Posted 9 April , 2014 Share Posted 9 April , 2014 Have now completed a 2nd Pass, this time cross-referencing the memorial names against those in SDGW with Birth Location = Willaston. That's filled in a few more gaps (including a KRRC man for me!) ... Anyone else hunting for these should be aware there is another Willaston in Cheshire near Nantwich. MBrockway Posted 9 April , 2014 Share Posted 9 April , 2014 Some further digging to fill in the gaps. I have shamelessly cherry picked the low lying fruit and left you all with WRIGHT and JONES to tackle Then of course there's lots of additional information on battalions, home addresses etc. etc.
