Highland Brogues

I am trying to find the detail of footwear worn by the Highland Division at the out set of WW1. I can only find statements along the lines of 'Brogues brown, let to drift to black in use, with a pattern less ornate than modern brogues'.

Any help or guidance anyone can offer on this subject would be very much appreciated.

Regards

I have a modern (1960s) pair I might be able to dig out and phtotograph for you for comparison - but Joe Sweeney might well be your man on this, he may have details and patterns. If he does not see this thread you might try PM'ing him.

I have lots of pictures of Gordons from this period but of course the gaiters largely cover the brogues so little can be discerned.

Thanks for the information gents, The pictures on the thread are exactly what I am looking for.

I am in no hurry but if you do get a moment to photograph your 1960's pair Chris I would be most grateful.

Regards

Keith
