Somerset Light Infantry mass transfer into Bedfordshires

Hi all

Has anyone researching the S.L.I. come across mention of a mass transfer into the Bedfordshires? On the surface, it looks like an organisational transfer, presumably when one of the three Garrison bns of the Bedfordshires were formed, but I have no firm evidence and would like some if out there?

There are pages and pages of SLI soldiers who were issued with consecutive Bedfordshire TF numbers I almost always associate to garrison Bns, their SLI numbers appearing to be pre 1917 TF numbers (from the low hundreds to over 5000's). All were issued just the British War Medal, which (in this Bedfordshires number range) usually ties in with Indian garrison duties.

Of those with SLI Bns listed, they seem to be predominantly 4th & 5th Battalion men. 1 record I have pulled suggests a time line and the Bedfordshire GB in question, but verification from another source would be very handy!

I am interested in confirming this is a mass transfer on formation of a garrison battalion and the date of the transfer please, so i can isolate which of the three garrison battalions this transfer created or reinforced.

Hi, it would seem the SLI's were transferred to numerous outfits, my grandfather's younger brother enlisted in the SLI and was transferred to Royal Warwicks, 14th Batt.

Tried to trace him through 'Rifles' museum, but seems few records exist?

Yes, have been wading through the men in the group one by one looking for records and found a few, but the success rate is around 1 in 10 for this bunch.
