HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 3 December , 2011 Posted 3 December , 2011 I hope I am recalling correctly but if right there was a post concerning former WW1 service personnel killed in the WW2 Blitz,I am trying to trace and confirm if one Augustin{e} KEOGH late of the Northamptonshire Regiment 13530 Pte,is the same man who is recorded as a 49 year old Civilian War Death on the CWGC site as Augustin William KEOGH who died on 29th June 1940 at the YMCA Russell Street London {Holborn} CWGC Link WW"
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 4 December , 2011 Author Posted 4 December , 2011 Further to my post of Yesterday, above, thanks to members of the BMF It has been confirmed that 13530 Pte Augustine Keogh, The Northamptonshire Regiment, was indeed the same Mr Keogh who was killed at the Y.M.C.A. Shelter at Russell Street but on the 24th June 1940 [29th most probably being a transcription error when the CWGC records were computerised] Augustine Keogh was killed when a bomb fell on the YMCA shelter killing 10 people, but leaving over 400 people unhurt. He was initially misnamed as "AUSTIN" by Police, who also had no record of his age. Thanks to all who helped.. HB
tharkin56 Posted 6 December , 2011 Posted 6 December , 2011 i have come across this in a few cases in the Coventry Air Raids, in particular http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=3155265 Alfred andre Bourdon was hit by an assiliant whilst on duty, he subsequently died of his injuries. Also cases with a husband lost in WW1 and sons/daughters lost in WW2
Stebie9173 Posted 12 December , 2011 Posted 12 December , 2011 On the subject of his Great War service, he was wounded at Trones Wood (or thereabouts), which presumably caused his discharge on 13-2-1917. A casualty list in the Rushden Echo of the time lists his residence as "Theobald's Road". Steve.
