Jonathan D'Hooghe Posted 25 November , 2011 Share Posted 25 November , 2011 I am tracing details of Cpl FT Betts who was wounded with the 2/5 Royal Warwicks on 25th March 1918. Can anyone pinpoint where this battalion was during the period 21 - 26 March? - LLT suggest Ham which is NW of St Quentin but more specific detail would be appreciated. Thank you. Jonathan In February 1918 the 2/5th battalion was amalgamated with the 2/6th and on 27th February the "new battalion" moved into the front line. On 24th March the Battalion dug in on the west bank of the St Quentin Canal. HQ was in a trench in the bank by the bridge over the canal that carries the road from Moyencourt to Buverchy. Here they were attacked at about 5pm on the 25th and the enemy succeeded in getting across to the south. A counter-attack by Col Davidson on the right flank of the Moyencourt-Buverchy road gave the Battalion time to fall back into the next line of resistance. Moving via Roye they were able to reform at Villers-aux-Etables about midday on 26th (From history of 2/6th Royal Warwicks) Regards Martin
