Eddy, what is this black something in the foreground?

Very interesting photos....the bunker in post 3 and edge of 5 is still there....have been trying to find matching photo but this will have to do.

Notes from a visit some time ago with the slide say that much of the the original brickwork is still there, also the whitewash on the inside. The door where the soldiers are lounging and the covered entrance in the foreground are still evident.

Hi

The section of map I scanned online is Copy No2 of a 2nd Army map dated 5/10/15. It is 49th Division but is not attributable to the 5th OBLI. Apologies for that. The map is marked SECRET but, as you can see, no British trenches were printed; it was left to the those in the the trenches to find their own way about and add the finer details! What on earth could have been secret about it!!?

Regards

Bob, if you want to know the location of the bunker on modern map (the park access road is not the same as was) someone has put a picture on google maps with a location, presumably from GSP or whatever they call it.

Regards Peter

PS Eddy...thanks for the photo cards, hadn't seen them before.

This is not fair !

I live less than half a kilometer from there, since 1974, and never have I been allowed in the Castle Park. A year ago I sent a very formal letter to the castle owner to ask if, for purely historical reasons, I would have the pleasure and honour to ...

No reply !

When did you take these pics, and what did you do to deserve right of entrance ?

You must have nobility in your roots or blue blood in your veins ! :-)

Aurel

P.S. Some weeks ago the castle was for sale. Maybe I should have been to the bank to get my savings ? :innocent:

Best outfit Aurel, and contact the seller or agent. Say you want a full tour, and that you must take pictures to show your wife before deciding whether to buy.

Go for it
