rogerh0343 Posted 23 November , 2011 Posted 23 November , 2011 The attached MIC for T/Lieutenant/Quartermaster refers to Constantinople and the award of an emblem in 1920 If any forum members could explain this I would be most grateful. Roger

rogerh0343 Posted 23 November , 2011 Author Posted 23 November , 2011 Under correspondence it appears to say:- Base ? (Possibly Command) Constantinople ? (fords) nom roll of individ entitled to the Emblem 8? of 9 returned 12/7/20 At the bottom of the front of the card it gives reference: EM/2/177.I.V.325/E.d/21.12.20 This soldier had 20 years plus of regular army service with Somerset Light Infantry up to 1908. Any assistance appreciated. Roger
Admin kenf48 Posted 23 November , 2011 Admin Posted 23 November , 2011 There are in fact two mic for this man (as evidenced by the address in Teignmouth). This would have been the home address where the medals were sent. The other card refers to G. R. Harris (George R) and shows he was an RSM in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry Regtl No 17224 theatre of War France 23/9/15 He was commissioned to the 41 Labour Corps HQ on 14/8/1917 (You can look up the LG reference as I find searching there is like the seventh circle of hell) As an officer he would have had to apply for his medals and the card shows that on 6/2/19 the list of officers eligible for the 14/15 Star, then serving in the 3rd Echelon at Salonika was forwarded by the Adjutant General. It seems he then remained in the Middle East and was serving in Constantinople when a similar list of officers entitled to the emblem was forwarded to the medals office. This was an oak leaf emblem for the Victory Medal and denotes he was mentioned in dispatches (again see LG). I read it as 'Base Command Constantinople fords (forwards) nom(inal) roll of individ(uals) entitled to the emblem. 11/3/20 The other reference contains I.V. which is Issue Voucher so refers to the issue of the emblem i.e. I.V.325 the rest are administrative references which as Ancestry notes are now 'quite obscure'! 21.12.20. is probably the date of issue I imagine EM2/1177 is a an index reference to the emblem but don't know. According to the LLT http://www.1914-1918.net/dcli.htm it looks very much like he was one of the cadre of regulars (or reservists) attached to the 8th (Service) Bn and went with them to France and then on to Salonika Ken
