Researching New German Army Ancestors

Hi all,

I recently made contact with a relative of mine connected to me via my great uncle Julius Strauss, whom I have mentioned on this forum before (and whose military records continue to elude me). My relative sent me a family tree for that branch of the family which contains a good half dozen men who are prime candidates for having served in the Great War but I have no notion, based on where they were from, if they would have been in the Prussian army, Bavarian, etc. I am hoping folks who know which towns were in which kingdom back then might point me in the right direction. The men are:

DANIEL LEVY, b. May 10, 1882, Bollendorf, Germany

MORITZ LEVY, b. April 26, 1898, Bollendorf, Germany

MORITZ MAYER, b. February 20, 1891, Bollendorf, Germany

MAX MAYER, b. March 06, 1896, Bollendorf, Germany

SIEGFRIED MAYER, b. April 14, 1890, Könen, Germany

MORITZ MAYER, b. June 06, 1890, Könen, Germany

LOUIS MAYER, no DOB, Könen, Germany

ALFRED LEVY, b. August 06, 1901, Aach, Germany

Any suggestions would be most welcome. This tree already has four known and identified Great War veterans on it (including Julius, mentioned above), so there is a very good chance some (if not all) of these men served. None of them died in the Great War, though most were killed in the Holocaust (confirmed via Gedenkbuch and/or Yad Vashem).

Thanks,

-Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Bollendorf is situated close to the border of Luxembourg. The town belonged to Prussia.

Not far away is Könen. Near Konz at the River of Mosel. Also Prussian.

And finally Aach. This village is near Trier on the Mosel. All locations belonged to the province of Rheinland.

Fritz,

Thanks so much! So, given they were likely all in the Prussian Army, I have eight new haystacks to seek needles in. :)

Maybe, one day, I may find something on each of them...who knows?

Take care,

Daniel
