1st east yorks Posted 16 November , 2011 Posted 16 November , 2011 Hello all, yesterday i was sent a picture of my GGFather from a long lost relative. Not only is this the first photo i have ever seen of him but to make it more interesting he is in uniform;his cap badge is like nothing ive seen before, though its not very clear.I knew of only one GGFather who fought in the great war(see my footnote)so to find another is really exciting.I found out a lot of information on my other GGFather so im hoping this great forum can help me again, although what i have is limited. Name : James Ivory. Birthplace : Dublin.(i assume,as this is where my Dad and his family are from) Year born : 1877?? (making him 37 at the outbreak of war???) He survived the war dying aged 80 in 1957,my relative believes.I will attach a photo when i can work out how to resize it. Thanks in advance, Anthony.
ss002d6252 Posted 16 November , 2011 Posted 16 November , 2011 There's not too may possibilities if he served overseas , hopefully your picture will allow us to find which one is him.
1st east yorks Posted 16 November , 2011 Author Posted 16 November , 2011 This is a close up of his cap Anthony.
IPT Posted 16 November , 2011 Posted 16 November , 2011 There is a man of about the right age in the RFA who was from living in London, but served in Ireland (counted as home). He was married to Elizabeth Martin, and had two daughters at the time, Margaret and Mary Anne. Any good?

IPT Posted 16 November , 2011 Posted 16 November , 2011 Hard to say. Doesn't look like a harp. You might be better posting the whole picture. There may be clues in the uniform.
ss002d6252 Posted 16 November , 2011 Posted 16 November , 2011 Hard to say. Doesn't look like a harp. I wasn't sure either but with a squint and it being on an angle it might just fit. I agree though that the uniform would be helpful.
1st east yorks Posted 16 November , 2011 Author Posted 16 November , 2011 Sorry its took so long, thanks for all your replies. Blowing the photo up and looking at the capbadge it appears like an upside down chevron or 2 flags back to back????? Anthony

steve fuller Posted 20 November , 2011 Posted 20 November , 2011 The Bedfordshire James Ivory won the DCM, so presumably, if it was him, you would know about such a medal?
IPT Posted 20 November , 2011 Posted 20 November , 2011 Was George Valentine born in 1905 (on Valentine's Day)? If so, it's bit of a mystery where the family were in 1911.
1st east yorks Posted 20 November , 2011 Author Posted 20 November , 2011 Steve, Ive only recently found out about my GGFathers involement during the great war,so your probably correct,if he had of been awarded a DCM im sure we would have known.
