Hi everyone,

I am now starting to research the men on my towns' war memorial. The first person I would like to research is the man mentionied above.

From my research I have already seen a photo of him as he appears in de Ruvigny's Roll of Honour, which also gives some details about his pre war service.

However, I do not have access to the National Archives at the moment so was wondering if people on here would be kind enough to tell me anything else about him. What I do know is:

Name: Charles George Day

Rank: Drummer

No: 7037

Unit: 3rd Battalion Coldstream Guards

Hometown: Bishop's Stortford

Joined: Nov 26th 1906

Born: 26th June 1892

Died: 22nd Feb 1915

What interested me about this man was his unit, as I have read that most of the guards records still survive. Does anyone have any experiance in working with their archives? My experiance with other units hasnt been that great. Also, was the rank of drummer an appointment or an actual rank? It seems rather low for a man of 9 years service.

Either way please add whatever you can. I am sure this will be one of the easier men to research as a lot of the others are just a name and a intial!

Thanks.

Joe.
