A gun constructed in the Dar Es Salaam Railway Workshops during the Great War, but probably never fired in anger.

A band in Tanga in the 1890s.

The Schutztruppe was very keen on using bands for parades and recruiting, and buglers for operational signalling.

A German Treasure Chest, used for pre-Great War tax collection and as a wartime mobile safe.

Quite a load for selected porters.

Construction of the first railway line in German East Africa, from Tanga to Korogwe, 1893 - 1899.

This was the start of the Usambara Railway which was used tactically by the Germans as they retreated in 1916, and which after capture was a vital part of the British supply chain.

Troops in the fort at Mahenge.

This was taken when the fort was besieged by Maji Maji rebels, 1905-1906.

I do not know if the fort architecture was changed before the Great War commenced.

The safe looks like it would have been quite the load. Also the cannon looks like it would have been more dangerous to those firing it. Thank you for sharing.
