I celebrated my mother's 90th Birthday this weekend and as many family members as possible attended which include my dad's brother. On arrival he produced a small bible and handed it to me saying that he knew I was interested in WW1 and would I be interested in having it. Would I???!! It belonged to my dad's (and his bother's) uncle it is inscribed:

20851 Serjeant Jas Vokes, 1/5 Yorks Regiment, C Coy, II Platoon, B.E.F France and is dated 22/3/17.

Sadly he didn't make it. RIP James (Jas) :poppy:http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=850492

Another research project for me and I'm looking forward to finding out more.

You lucky man!

Mind, we can't complain, we still have James' granddad's medals and tags, so we are lucky too.

I contacted Bill as you suggested and he has kindly added some further information about James Vokes and included a scan of the bible entry. This can be seen via the link at your post number 3. Thanks for pointing me in his direction.
