DeepcutMark Posted 12 November , 2011 Posted 12 November , 2011 Not sure if this is in the right area of the forum, if someone suggests it should go elsewhere I'll repost it there... We always track ebay for local history ephemera etc, but these popped up as 'Buy It Now' items and we couldn't resist. Three engraved steel spoons, with a girls name on the back of each with Blackdown POW camp. (Frith Hill Deepcut), and flowers on the inside of the bowls. Each has either a flower or butterfly on the tip of the handle. The ebay description said these were engraved by a german POW, but I suppose could easily have been done by a soldier based there too? P.O.W. hand-engraved spoons by MarkQPR, on Flickr Etched spoon "Lily" by MarkQPR, on Flickr I hope they're genuine. Has anyone else seen something similar?
Ogilwy Posted 18 November , 2011 Posted 18 November , 2011 Mark, We may wish to talk as limited investigation into Frith Hill is intended soon. A suitable location needs identifying but permission upon location of a suitable spot is not a problem. I have done quite a bit of research into the camp in preparation already, but anything you can add would be of great interest. PM me if you wish to chat. Rod
Peter Doyle Posted 20 November , 2011 Posted 20 November , 2011 These spoons are of the type used in WW2, rather smaller than those used in the First World War. This is only of relevance if the camp you mention was of First War vintage. I have seen a number of WW2 POW German related artefacts, and these are nice examples. Peter
themonsstar Posted 21 November , 2011 Posted 21 November , 2011 A suitable location is just of the Old Bisley Rd & Deepcut Bridge Rd at the Golf Club. I'v did a talk & walk a Round the Pow camp about a year ago Attach is a rough lay out of camp 1 & 2 (1917)
