bmac Posted 11 November , 2011 Posted 11 November , 2011 Wonder if someone can pin down the identity of the officer whose signature is in the attached? Povey? Tovey? Checked various NA databases and nothing leaps out at me. All/any help gratefully received.
David_Underdown Posted 11 November , 2011 Posted 11 November , 2011 Suspect June 1916 army list for RFA Lt-Cols is going to be your best bet. He was commanding 88th? Bde RFA which might also help
battiscombe Posted 11 November , 2011 Posted 11 November , 2011 Maj Harry Turner Tovey, C/88th Bde kia 1918 (there is another post about him somewhere I think) .. he could have been temporary brigade commander as a/Lt Col; but his brother George Strangways TOVEY was also an artillery Major in 1913 - so this could be him?? Dick Flory will doubtless know ..,
rflory Posted 12 November , 2011 Posted 12 November , 2011 Lt. Col. George Strangeways Tovey did command 88th Brigade, RFA and I suspect that it is his signature but I don't have the date at which he took over command of that brigade. He was appointed a Brevet Lieutenant Colonel on 1 January 1916 so that may be the date that he took over the brigade. Regards, Dick Flory
bmac Posted 12 November , 2011 Author Posted 12 November , 2011 Bloody awful signature then! Thanks for the information.
