South Staffordshire 8th Battalion

Hi

I'm trying to research my grandad, Richard Davies, part of the South Staffordshire Regiment, 8th Battalion.

Joined in Bradley 1915 and died in 15/02/1916.

I think his name may be on the Menin Gate.

I wondered if anyone had any additional information?

Many thanks.

:)

CWGC does indeed state that he is remembered on the Menin Gate.

His number was 15568 and was in the 8th Bn South Staff. Rgt.

His MIC shows he entered France on 14/7/1915 and he was awarded the BWM, VM and 1915 Star.

SDWG shows he was born in Bradley, Staffs and resided in Bilston Staffs.

His number was 15568 and he is remembered on the Menin Gate as you say:

8 South Staffordshire were part of 51 Brigade OF 17 Division and in February 1916 were facing the German advance around Ypres, see here from the Long Long Trail,at top left of this page:

There is also a War Diary at the National Archives,Kew,which will detail the actions of the time.It is under WO95/2007 and runs from July 1915 through to 1918.
