deano Posted 3 November , 2011 Share Posted 3 November , 2011 Well done all again. Thomas Brown came to my notice through 'The Hand and Heart' magazine. This was the 'inhouse' magazine for the firm Samuel Osborns here in Sheffield. It carried, in one of its supplements, a 'War Memoir' listing those who had served and died from the firm during the war. This was Thomas's entry beside his photograph - T. Brown, Sherwood Foresters, worked in the Spring Department at the Wicker Works. He was an old soldier, having served 14 years in the KOYLI. When war broke out he was sent on coastguard duty and as a result of exposure contracted tuberculosis, from which he died two weeks after his discharge in May, 1914. He was given a military funeral'. Thomas lived at 44 White Croft, here in Sheffield. His daughter was with him when he died. He is buried at St. Michaels Roman Catholis Cemetery, Sheffield, grave ref. C 68. His papers survive on Ancestry. NOT FORGOTTEN.

Bardess Posted 3 November , 2011 Share Posted 3 November , 2011 I'm amazed at the rate of acceptance for the first couple of my Smethwick lads as they were only put forward last month! Thanks to Terry and Chris for their help and guidance. I'm blown away May they all rest in peace
