59165 Posted 24 October , 2011 Author Share Posted 24 October , 2011 Ok. Had a bit of a weekend away & finally managed to take the long walk up to the top of the hill. I admit,I knew nothing of the hospitals history.

59165 Posted 24 October , 2011 Author Share Posted 24 October , 2011 If you could see the view from the cliff tops, you would know why the architect built the hotel here. Magnificent view. That'll be Chantal in red, there .
59165 Posted 24 October , 2011 Author Share Posted 24 October , 2011 It seems that only one staircase entrance remains for the whole building.
Paul Reed Posted 24 October , 2011 Share Posted 24 October , 2011 Very interesting Dave. I have some postcards of it and often wondered what had happened to it.

59165 Posted 24 October , 2011 Author Share Posted 24 October , 2011 Just to remind you that Arras,Vimy & all the other places that some folk call 'the Somme'are not 'the Somme' .It is a big old county... Here is La Somme; At low tide. The place where Billy the Conquerer set off to do what he did at Battle,Hastings. Paul,it was a new one for me to hear that the place was blown up by the Axis forces because they deemed it 'a threat'. May be worth digging into a bit. Dragon Posted 24 October , 2011 Share Posted 24 October , 2011 Once upon a time... Some years ago, maybe in the late 1980s before I knew what was what, I was wandering round the few cliff top stones which remain of the hospital site and I was oppressed with a profound sense of claustrophobia and tension. Weird. Chilling. All there was to see was a set of stone steps and a stone banister, and a couple of pillars, forming what would have been a veranda. As soon as I walked on to that veranda, I was breathless, my chest was tight and hurting, I felt dizzy and frightened and I had a deep unlocatable feeling of anxiety. The place was, in a sense, impenetrable. Since then I've acquired a few postcards and the misty imagery has resolved. Thanks for sharing your pictures, Dave. It'd be like this, but down not up. My card. That casino's gone. I do like the seafood restaurants there. I suppose some things don't change. Dragon Posted 25 October , 2011 Share Posted 25 October , 2011 You had a fab day for it, Dave. It's so vividly blue. We used to walk from Mesnil-Val along the cliff tops to the hospital site and down to le Tréport for seafood. Stayed frequently at la Vieille Ferme, but it's changed. I s'pose I prefer that area in about 1890. An awe-inspiring hotel - its reverse: (My card. I have quite a few of this area, for buildings and costumes as much as anything else.) kevmc Posted 25 October , 2011 Share Posted 25 October , 2011 à vos ordres,Madame Here's Tréport from the top. Have been to Le Treport a few times and always feel like I have stepped back in time when walking through the town. The view above is actually of Mers Les Bains rather than Le Treport. There is a French web site that has hundreds of photos of the town including some from WWI - unfortunately I cannot find details of it at the moment. Will have a look and post another message if successful. The Mont Huon plateau seems to be having work done next to the Cemetery (earlier in the year Google Earth had views of roadworks) did 59165, (is that Dave?), see what was going on? kevmc Posted 25 October , 2011 Share Posted 25 October , 2011 I don't think this is the one I found in the past but as it does have a lot of old photo's it may be of interest. http://www.le-treport-76470.com/ Kevin

Le_Treport Posted 25 October , 2011 Share Posted 25 October , 2011 'Spose I should put in an appearance here As I too was in St Valery and Le Treport recently I'll look out my photos this evening. If I remember correctly (I did after all visit quite a few cemeteries!), near the Mount Huon cemetery, there is a big new business park type building going up. Sort of between the cemetery and Le Treport.
