themonsstar Posted 26 October , 2011 Share Posted 26 October , 2011 John Hartley's book 6th Battalion, Manchester Regiment in the Great War 'Not a Rotter in the Lot' has a very good section on the 2/6th Battalion. The war diary for that period is WO95/3144 2/6th Battalion, Manchester Regiment March 1917-July 1918. There also is a book called Valhalla the Western front August-December 1917 D company 2/6th Battalion, Manchester Regiment wrote by Walter Ibbotson Hulme edited by Robert Bonner. it was published 2011. I know it covers the period before the time you are looking for, however it complements John Hartley's book , which is a very good book on the 6th Battalion. John_Hartley Posted 29 October , 2011 Share Posted 29 October , 2011 Geoff The action takes up around 4 pages of, ahem, a certain book which I'm not allowed to advertise. The relevent positions of the battalion are around Cote Wood, Carpeza Copse and Fervaque Farm - all near Hervilly. As with many other units on the day, the Mancs were simply overwhelmed by greater numbers of very well armed attackers. John
