otterspotter Posted 19 October , 2011 Share Posted 19 October , 2011 I'm writing and illustrating a factual picture book for children on my grandfather's war experiences in the RFA 1914 - 1918. It will be published next year in association with the IWM and although I have quite a lot of personal reference from my family and have been to the IWM and Googled plenty I would still hope for more. Do any members have any photos of the following RFA brigades/batteries: 117 and 116 / (26 brigade/1st Division). Some websites and worse still, various pages of my grandfather's war record refer to both 117 battery / 26 brigade and 117 brigade 'c' battery which is confusing for me. The images will not be used or published as it will be purely illustrative rather than photographic - I am just looked at for inspiration and visual detail. It would also be interesting to see images of any artillery units taken in Salonika as he was both in France and Salonika. If you look at a previous book Tail-End Charlie about my dad's RAF experiences in 1944 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tail-End-Charlie-Mick-Manning/dp/1845076516) you will get an idea of what I do. Also can anyone confirm what seems to be said in other postings that a bombardier would ride a horse alongside the gun limber as opposed to sitting on the limber or riding one of the gun team horses. Grandfather often talked of his horse, a dappled grey called Dobbin. Thanks.

anthony osborne Posted 31 August , 2012 Share Posted 31 August , 2012 Hello, attached is a picture of C Battery, 117th Brigade in Salonika. My Great Great Uncle Ernest Harry Hart (attached) served in A Battery 117th Brigade joining in late 1916. He was killed in September 1918 on the Somme. Plan to dig out the war diary from Kew in the next couple of months. Ant
