Fuse marking and bottle lettering

Chris

Recommended Posts

Have been trying without much success to try and work out the markings on the fuse (well the very top section at least) in the picture, and also trying to work out the remainder of the lettering from a bottle fragment, both of which i believe are German.

Fuse is stamped around the section: V.S.M. 4/16 801 815A Now i guess the 4/16 is for april 1916 but the rest i am stuck.

The bottle has part of the writing but is missing the beginnings of the three lines

Visible top ... DER FIRMA

Middle ..... DEBRANDT

Bottom..... NGEN

Any help appreciated.

No idea about the glass, but looking at the fuze, it seems to be solid (aluminium?), so could it possibly be a transportation plug for HE shells?

A side view would be useful.

Many thanks to you both for the help. Sorry for late reply Sepoy was having a few computer problems during the last few days. Will get another view of the top photographed and posted in the next day or so.

Many thanks

Agree it looks more like a transportation plug, although these were normally brass. However, it is definitely British and made by Vickers as already pointed out.
