sasplin Posted 5 October , 2011 Share Posted 5 October , 2011 Good evening I have the MIC of Private Thomas Corbett 2980 / 240756 of the Worcestershire Regiment, a copy of which I have attached. I am unable to decifer the medal roll entry for the British War Medal and Victory medal, so any help would be appreciated. Additionally, is there any way I can look up the medal roll without having to go all the way the the National Archives? Kind regards Steve Corbett MIC 2980.doc
roughdiamond Posted 6 October , 2011 Share Posted 6 October , 2011 Steve Is that MIC wrongly listed on the NA's as 240756 Pte Thomas Corbett 8th Lincolnshire Regiment with no mention of his earlier 2980 service number? Really poor listing as the Lincolnshire Regt's 8th Bn wasn't Territorial. The number is clearly 8th Worc as the only other 8th Bn of any Regt with that number in their block was the Middlesex Regt. Your best option is to look at the MIC on Ancestry, this is it I believe http://search.ancest...D9_x=1&uidh=000 they are far higher resolution colour copies and far easier to read. Can I ask why you want to look at the Medal Roll's? The card seems to also be for the SWB and shows his enlistment date 24/09/1914 and his Discharge date 14/04/1917 due to "Wounds". The Medal Rolls are not on line, the only way to see the info on them is for you or someone else to go to Kew. Sam
sasplin Posted 6 October , 2011 Author Share Posted 6 October , 2011 Thanks Sam, Yes, the MIC was incorrectly indexed as the Lincolnshire Regt. Confused me mightily! Not sure what extra info I might get from the medal rolls but I'm trying to get as much personal info on Pte Corbett as possible. I can't seem to find a service or pension record, so guess they were destroyed. Thanks Steve
roughdiamond Posted 6 October , 2011 Share Posted 6 October , 2011 Did you have any luck with the Ancestry MIC? Sam
Promenade Posted 6 October , 2011 Share Posted 6 October , 2011 Steve, Here is his entry in the BWM/Vic roll - as you can see it adds nothing to what you already know other than that he was in 2/8 Worcs. Joe
