David Seymour Posted 26 September , 2011 Share Posted 26 September , 2011 Forum Pals in the Salisbury area are probably already aware of the growing tide of objection to the proposal by Salisbury Vision to relocate Salisbury War Memorial away from the position carefully chosen by its builders in the early twenties, in alignment with the Guildhall, to a position off to the side of the Guildhall Square. This War Memorial is a Grade Two Listed Structure and was unveiled in 1922 by Tom Adlam VC, a local lad whose great-nephew has already lodged an objection to the proposed relocation (http://southplanning.wiltshire.gov.uk/public-planning-application-documents/00465000/00464815_Representation_Letters.pdf). Grandchildren of one of the soldiers whose name is on the memorial have also objected to its relocation (http://southplanning.wiltshire.gov.uk/public-planning-application-documents/00462000/00461926_Representation_Letters.pdf). And, as you will see from the other representation letters already sent to Wiltshire Planning, there is much concern in the Salisbury area about the proposed relocation: http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/planninganddevelopment/2011/1320/applicationdocumentation.htm Also, you don’t have to live in Salisbury to submit an objection to the proposed relocation of this memorial. There is a simple online form here: https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/planninganddevelopment/2011/1320/submitapplicationcomment.htm Some of you may have already seen that there is to be a Salisbury Area Board meeting on 10 October and its Chairman has set up an online survey but in case you haven't seen it the details can be found here: http://www.salisburyjournal.co.uk/news/9271708.Have_your_say_on_Market_Place_plan/ . I have just filled it in and it only took a few minutes. The section about the war memorial comes after those dealing with the market place trees and the disabled parking. David Seymour Posted 5 October , 2011 Author Share Posted 5 October , 2011 This is just to let everyone know that the deadline for registering objections to the proposed relocation of this memorial has been extended to 12 November 2011. punjab612 Posted 8 October , 2011 Share Posted 8 October , 2011 It looks as if the proposals have been, or are about to be withdrawn http://www.salisburyjournal.co.uk/news/9292432.Vision_board_drops_Market_Place_scheme/?ref=mr Peter
David Seymour Posted 12 October , 2011 Author Share Posted 12 October , 2011 Dear All, Considerable public pressure, apparent in objections to the planning department and at the Area Board meeting on Monday evening, has led to the planning application to relocate Salisbury War Memorial being withdrawn. See here: http://southplanning.wiltshire.gov.uk/public-planning-application-documents/00469000/00468925_Decision_Notice.pdf With best wishes, David
