David Seymour Posted 16 July , 2004 Share Posted 16 July , 2004 The following is an extract from the Long Long Trail: "/1st to 4/4th Battalions Formed in May 1915 when the 3rd-Line Bns went to 173rd Brigade, 58th Division. All became Reserve Bns in April 1916. In September 1916, the 2nd and 4th were absorbed by the 1st and 3rd respectively. Remained in England throughout the war. " My man, Charles W Sayer, died 1918, found at last via his death cert was apparently in the 4/1 Londons. Am I correct in assuming from the above that he never went overseas? Thanks for any help. Regards, David
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 16 July , 2004 Share Posted 16 July , 2004 Rule 1: "Never Assume Anything!" Regarding his Death Certificate,All that tells you is that @ the TIME of his Death he was serving with 4/1st,he may have been posted to that Battalion after being wounded, etc, you would need to check & cross reference other sources to confirm he did not previously serve Overseas with other Battalions or even Regiments Have you tried to get a copy of his Medal Index Card??
