Remembered Today:

1 Bn, Royal Scots Fusiliers 1914

Can anyone help me by telling me where 1 Bn, Royal Scots Fusiliers were on 3rd December 1914 or thereabouts? Were they in action on that date or just before?

I need to find out quickly what a casualty (Pte John Forbes 11080) was doing on the day he died. He is buried in Ration Farm Military Cemetery.

CWGC and SDGW give 1 Bn but his MIC says 2 Bn. Any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ray Westlake's British Battalions in 1914 seems to imply both 1st and 2nd RSF were in the same sector.

The 1st were relieved by 2nd Suffolks on 3.12.14 and went to Locre, having been in trenches "west of Hill 75 in Kemmel sector".

The 2nd relieved 2nd Wilts on the 2.12.14 and were relieved by the same unit on 5.12.14. The Wilts entries show them in the "Kemmel sector".

I suspect the medal roll at NA will be the only answer.
