Chris_Baker Posted 8 April , 2011 Share Posted 8 April , 2011 Bardess, the ground you can see in the top pic in tafski's post #126 is looking north from a point NE of Ploegsteert wood, looking north. On the horizon about two miles away is the village of Messines. In between the ground gently drops to the valley of the River Douve and then rises up to Messines. This area was held by the 5th Division and part of 4th Division at Christmas 1914. Brits on the left, Germans on the right of the picture.
