Old Tom Posted 18 December , 2012 Author Share Posted 18 December , 2012 I have just noticed a reference to 'Resident Clerks' in Lord Hankey's 'The Supreme Command'. It is in the context of the preparation fo the 'War Book' in the years before 1914 and is about a 'minor necessity' which is the requirment for all Resident Clerks to sleep on the premises (as at the Admiralty) at the Foreign Office, Colonial Office, Board of Trade etc etc etc. Odd that the War Office is not mentioned.
