phil@basildon Posted 1 April , 2011 Author Share Posted 1 April , 2011 Perhaps the person who answered the last question did not realise that they had to provide the next question or for some reason are unable too. Could anyone step in with a question?
SiegeGunner Posted 1 April , 2011 Share Posted 1 April , 2011 Okay — seeing as I got the cemetery and the three hills in the last one, I'll go again. There is a large divisional memorial directly behind me, and I am looking out over open fields through an aperture in a smaller memorial. I catch a whiff of French perfume in the air. What is the name of the perfume and what shape is the aperture? Bonus points for identifying the two memorials.
truthergw Posted 1 April , 2011 Share Posted 1 April , 2011 It's the Tunnelers memorial but I can't think what the perfume is.
dfaulder Posted 1 April , 2011 Share Posted 1 April , 2011 It's the Tunnelers memorial but I can't think what the perfume is. Well in that case the scent is Givenchy and the aperture is a T. (55th - West Lancashire divisional memorial) David
SiegeGunner Posted 1 April , 2011 Share Posted 1 April , 2011 Thanks to Tom's clue, David has it dead right. The Tunnelers Memorial at Givenchy-lès-la-Bassée, adjoining the memorial to the 55th West Lancashire division. Whichever of them looks in again first should set the next question. paul@bolton Posted 1 April , 2011 Share Posted 1 April , 2011 David Are you standing on the ramparts with your back to the Menin Gate looking at the miniature bronze copy? Paul Damn. Beaten by a minute. Paul
dfaulder Posted 1 April , 2011 Share Posted 1 April , 2011 Ian A has got it, so his turn - sorry Paul Is it bronze, or has it been replaced with something less valuable - you worry now-a-days? David
IanA Posted 1 April , 2011 Share Posted 1 April , 2011 Sorry Paul - I've not been following this thread and just thought I'd take a shuftie at it. Now I've got to think of a follow up and my brain's hurting. I shall cogitate (they can't touch you for it). I think it's bronze but I don't know for sure. IanA Posted 1 April , 2011 Share Posted 1 April , 2011 Lyness Royal Naval Cemetery, to be precise. Well done, that man!
truthergw Posted 1 April , 2011 Share Posted 1 April , 2011 Hint. Pay particular attention to the question. I am at the end of a bridge, looking across a wide stretch of water and can see one of the most conspicuous war memorials in UK.

Pete1052 Posted 1 April , 2011 Share Posted 1 April , 2011 I think of Hampshire. Here in the U.S. we have lakes in New Hampshire and some of them have islands in them. However I can categorically say there weren't any Great War battles on them and I doubt any of them have memorials to the war. People should be forewarned that guys from Heiton are strange and the things they say should be taken with a grain of salt.
