Lt Col A Northern CBE DSO, RASC, attained the age limit of liability to recall on Oct 28th 1928 (Gaz)

He ceased to belong to the reserve of officers.

How old would he have been 1928.

It was generally 55 years old, I believe. The date was sometimes the man's 55th birthday, but not always.

I think your man is probably Arthur Northen (no 2nd "r"). He has several LG entries under that spelling.

See: http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/exact=Arthur+Northen/start=1

plus an ASC MIC noting 1st Divisional Train and 23rd Divisional Train.

It looks like he was born in the OND Quarter of 1873 at Croydon. Possibly died at Gloucester in 1964, age 90?

Steve.

I think the age limit varied with the rank achieved, as with the compulsory retirement ages for serving officers.

Steve's data are certinly consistent with it being his 55th birthday.
