James Brown Posted 24 January , 2011 Share Posted 24 January , 2011 Hi folks Just tying up some loose ends to my research. Looking for 2 things. 1. The commanding officer of the 10th Brigade on that fatefull day. I know the objective's - the Heidekopf (Quadrilateral Redoubt), and to the South - the Redan Ridge and East to Munich Trench. I have a man who was Machine Gun Corps, 10th Coy Infantry. Matthew McIntosh #16149 who was KIA. 2. Would he have went forward in the advance that morning or would he have been firing in support further back. I know there was an initial gain of some of the objectives, but could he have got forward to support. Thanks James

connaughtranger Posted 25 January , 2011 Share Posted 25 January , 2011 Still gratefull for any thoughts on the second part of my question. From 4th Division Operation Orders June 1916 The 10th Bde on the right and 12th on the left were to go through the 11th Bde, whose task was to take the first 2 objectives, and capture the 3rd objective. The guns of the 10th MG Co were to go over with the attacking infantry and man strong points, help in any way to facilitate the advance of nearby troops and prepare and consolidate the new front line for defence. The casualties for the 10th Bde MG Co were: Officers: 1 killed, 1 wounded, 2 missing OR's: 2 killed, 15 wounded, 7 missing....Total 28 The 11th Bde MG Co had 69 casualties and the 12th suffered 65 casualties
