Remembered Today:

U boat off Llandudno 1915

On the night of 12/13 June 1915 a U boat surfaced off the Great Orm. She lay on the surface for around four hours. She was so close in that her crew's voices could be heard from the shore.

This was almost certainly a dress rehearsal for the effort made to extract German escaped POWs that was attempted by Valentiner in U38 in August 1915.

Can anyone identify the June u-boat?

Regards

David

Its highly likely that the surfaced UBoat in June was either the U38, or the U 27 under Korvettenkapitan Bernd Weggener who was an acknowledged Irish Sea expert. Both boats had been allocated for the Llandudno rendezvous to rescue Tholens and von Hennig.
