AnthonyStaunton Posted 18 January , 2011 Share Posted 18 January , 2011 Leonard Keysor was one of seven members of the Australian forces awarded the Victoria Cross at Lone Pine on Gallipoli in August 1915. Most references state that he was educated at Tonnleigh Castle, Ramsgate. Does anyone have any information on the educational institution at Tonnleigh Castle, Ramsgate in the early twentieth century? AnthonyStaunton Posted 23 January , 2011 Author Share Posted 23 January , 2011 A friend has suggested that it is not Tonnleigh Castle, Ramsgate but Townley Castle, Ramsgate. At least Townley Castle, Ramsgate exists but the question remains whether it was an educational institution in the early twentieth century. AnthonyStaunton Posted 25 January , 2011 Author Share Posted 25 January , 2011 Anthony See: http://www.michaelsb...ts2/townley.htm Dave Thank you. It is an excellent article. I emailed the author who confirmed that Townley Castle was a boys school at one period. My view now is that Tonnleigh Castle is a mispronunciation of Townley Castle.
