Derek Robertson Posted 23 June , 2004 Author Share Posted 23 June , 2004 Thanks Anthony - it was amongst earlier medals and I couldn't place it in the context.
johnreed Posted 23 June , 2004 Share Posted 23 June , 2004 It is the ribbon to the War Medal 1939-45. This medal was awarded to all personnel in any of the British or Commonwealth forces who served for a minimum 28 days during hostilities. This service could be operational or non-operational. Recipients whose service was terminated by daeth, injury or capture were automaticallyentitled to this award. The medal is of cupro-nickle, except for the Canadian issue (700,000) which is silver. No clasps were issued, and was usually unnamed. However, those issued to South African and Australian troops are usually impressed with the number and name of the recpient. Hope this is of help.
