theodore Posted 8 January , 2011 Share Posted 8 January , 2011 Can any member help with information on 2/Lieut. Charles Edward Stewart, 20th Bn. Manchester Regiment. He died from wounds on 10th September 1916. Where were the 20th Bn. Manchester Regiment at this time? Regards Peter
sotonmate Posted 8 January , 2011 Share Posted 8 January , 2011 Peter 20 Manchesters were with 22 Brigade of 7 Division at the Battle of Guillemont (a phase of the Battles of the Somme) from 3 to 6 September 1916. It is likely that he was either wounded there during the battle or shortly afterwards and died of wounds a few days later. You will probably get confirmation of this from the Bn War Diary at Kew, which is under WO95/1663.It is not yet digital for download. IPT Posted 8 January , 2011 Share Posted 8 January , 2011 I can't help with the 10th, but on the 3rd September they had attacked Ginchy, before being withdrawn to Fricourt on 4th September. I'm sure you already know the story of the Stewart family, but just in case; http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4161/is_20061112/ai_n16842355/?tag=untagged
