Beau Geste Posted 8 January , 2011 Share Posted 8 January , 2011 Can anyone help? In the medal list two dates are mentioned: the first is the "date of disembarcation" which in this case was 2nd December 1915. and in the column where changes of regiment are listed there is his "new" army number and a date the 14th January 1919. Is this the date that the authorities finally got around to awarding the 1915 Star or is it the date that the soldier left the service and returned to civilian life? If it's not the latter, what other avenues exist to answer this question when the soldier's records are amongst those that were destroyed during WW2 Harry
sotonmate Posted 8 January , 2011 Share Posted 8 January , 2011 Harry The 1919 date could well be when he was placed in Class Z Reserve, effectively demobilised. The Medal Index Card for the soldier may show this in confirmation. The likely date for awarding the Star is shown at the bottom of the Medal Roll page where the Authorising Officer has signed it. Sotonmate Yes, there is a 'Z' after the date. I didn't know what it referred to. Many thanks. Harry
