I have a group to Lt. Albert Gordon Jones Hawkins consisting of MBE (Mil), BWM and Victory with MID and a Belgium Croix de Guerre. According to his MIC he was attached to 36th Ulster Div HQ as an Intelligence Officer. Apart from various LG entries which support the medals including 2 x MID's (20.5.18 and 20.12.18) I can find nothing else about him. Two seperate professional searches have yielded no service papers. He cleary had an interesting career and I would love to find about more information about him.

Any information gratefully recieved.

No such place in Bedfordshire, I suggest it should be Bedford!

Certainly registered in the Bedford district Apr/May/Jun qtr of 1888 - also while his death was registerd in Uckfield district in the Jan/Feb/Mar qtr of 1975 - the reference to 10th Jan I think you'll find is the date given at the time of registration for his birth - which shows as 10 Ja 1888

Cheers

Hi Sotonmate,

Apologies for not replying sooner but I was out of the country for a few days however many thanks for your notes.

I am most surprised at the temporary Lt. Col rank but this certainly gives me something to go and will try to go to the National Archives and pull the file.

Thanks again.

You will get little extra to what I have told you ! I have picked the salient points out. Of course you may want to photo all the pages.

The temp Lt/Col rank was likely so that he wasn't outranked by Naval Officers under his command (a Captain in the Navy is of higher rank than a Captain in the Army). The sparse notes in his file are quite typical of Intelligence personnel. Antony
