Thanks again for the images sent of captured RUS MGs in Imperial German hands. The whole subject of beute MGs is a topic all by itself. Many of you will have images of French and British MGs that have been ‘re-purposed.  I need to look through the threads again to find some images I added years ago.

Anvil, the postcards are not just mine. Many BEL and FRA collectors send me copies of their MG images! The actual hardware is mine though.

Although there was a sled for the MG01, this is the first pattern sled for the 08. There are a few variations but the most obvious is the full front chest grill. As shown here. Mark

What is good about this picture is that it confirms some sleds saw service after ‘modification’. Often the thin steel side panels in the sled wings were damaged and so removed. Some other imagery shows handles fitted to the top of the wing but there is no evidence this was a factory modification, and again unit and/or armoured modification.

Noting the image above, I am still trying to find detail on the 'added' handles to the top of the sled wings. Factory or Unit armourer???

So sorry for absence. Time to kick-start all the WWI MG threads.

Hi Mark. Strangely stumbled across this photograph of two MG08 teams and, seeing your thread, thought it maybe of interest should you have not seen it before.

Just doing some pre-2023 file cleaning. Found these 2 which may feature already but good viewing!  Happy New Year everyone - spare a thought for UKR.

Superb photo in so many ways. 4 barrel carry case, clear markings on how to place ammo belt into the 500 rd cans, and barrel jacket repair clamp.

Thanks for sharing.
